Project name:

Energy efficiency of industrial parks through energy cooperation and mutualised energy services

Status: Pending
Creation date: 15-03-2017

Project objectives:

EISCO (Energy Efficiency through Industrial Symbiosis and COllaborative financial instruments) fosters cooperation and improves energy efficiency through collaboration between different companies. EISCO maximises energy efficiency and energy storage? through facility design or rehabilitation, co-generation and energy cascading in order to achieve higher efficiency through inter-plant energy flows and the use of renewable sources. EISCO clusters energy exchange, collective production (heat) via energy requirements in processes and buildings accompanied by functional and sustainable methods of financial instruments.

Despite the acknowledged advantages, Energy efficiency of industrial parks through energy cooperation – and mutualised energy services- actually is rare or linked with existing collaboration. The potential for uptake of new synergies is often limited by a range of non-technical aspects e.g. the lack of information sharing, knowledge of available energy cooperation between industries on an industrial park, socio-economic etc… hence there is a need to remove those barriers by sharing best practices and developing new “pathways to facilitate and coordinate the implementation of new initiatives on industrial symbiosis”. This requires mechanisms and incentives to stimulate industries to identify, incubate, organise and deploy a common strategy with the involvement of all the stakeholders. EISCO addresses the stakeholders in the value chain on industrial parks providing a comprehensive approach assessing the enabling conditions and technological needs for for energy savings and energy symbiosis.
