Project name:

LIFE CAT4HEAVY

Status: In Realisation
Creation date: 29-05-2017

Project objectives:

The LIFE CAT4HEAVY project aims to demonstrate the feasibility and the performances of an emission control technology that will significantly impact air quality and environment, dramatically reducing GHG emissions of HDVs by 2%, the use of the critical raw materials by 0.35%, of ammonia by 100%, while reducing waste coming from end of life HDVs thanks to the possibility of retrofitting CAT4HEAVY on existing HDVs, independently by their Euro class.
The solution is particularly interesting for public bodies which need to renew their large fleets to reduced emissions in cities but cannot afford the economic investment that would be required to this aim. For this reason, the project will mainly focus on public transport HDV sector while carrying out activities for fostering market replication in other market sectors such as private HDV and different vehicles (boats) or buses.
Partners have already performed R&D activities showing feasibility and benefits of the different
modules of the CAT4HEAVY catalyst-based emission control system. The project will up-scale and test the technology to confirm performance of the whole device upon integration of all the modules. During the project, the solution will be demonstrated on real paths on 10 trucks in the municipality of Galatsi, and replicated in Italy on 9 HDVs from GEAM and 5 HDVs from APAM.
