The European Research Council (ERC) has officially adopted its 2021 Work Programme. This work programme is the first approved under the 2021-2027 European Union Framework Programme for Research and Innovation, Horizon Europe. With its budget of €1.9 billion, it will allow some 1,000 top researchers to pursue frontier research.

The work programme published includes a calendar of grant competitions:

• the Starting Grant call is scheduled to open on 25 February 2021 and close on 8 April 2021
• the Consolidator Grant call will open on 11 March 2021 and close on 20 April 2021
• the Advanced Grant on 20 May 2021 and close on 31 August 2021
