From research to real-world demonstration: PNO Innovation at the SEAMLESS Demo Event in Antwerp

The future of automated inland waterway transport depends not only on increasingly autonomous vessels, but also on their ability to operate within efficient, sustainable and economically viable logistics systems.

On 21 October, in Antwerp, we saw this vision take shape at the SEAMLESS Demonstration Event, showcasing the results of four years of research and innovation.

From the remote operation of the LETITIA vessel in the Port of Antwerp to the automated mooring system developed by MacGregor, alongside advanced digital logistics platforms, the event demonstrated how automation can help reshape freight transport across Europe's inland waterways.

But proving that a technology works is only part of the journey. The real challenge is creating the conditions for its widespread adoption.

This is where PNO Innovation's expertise comes into play.

Through SEAMLESS, we contribute to assessing the economic and market potential of the solutions developed, combining economic analysis, stakeholder insights and exploitation strategies to help bring innovation closer to real-world applications.

Our colleague Anastasiya Azarko also moderated the event, facilitating discussions among technology partners, experts and stakeholders on the future of the sector.

A special thanks to DST – Development Centre for Ship Technology and Transport Systems, Port of Antwerp-Bruges, MacGregor, and all SEAMLESS partners for their collaboration and commitment.

Because the success of innovation is measured not only by what a technology can do, but by the value it can create once it reaches the market.
