LEADS: a new project coordinated by CiaoTech - Gruppo PNO started!

CiaoTech - Gruppo PNO is the coordinator of the project LEADS - Creating and managing a pipeline of H2020 projects for the innovation fund on CCUS, funded under the Cluster 5 (Climate, Energy and Mobility) of Horizon Europe and aim at building innovation pipelines for low-carbon and CCUS technologies for energy-intensive industries (EII) from Horizon 2020 (H2020) and Horizon EUROPE (HEU) to the Innovation Fund (IF).

LEADS focuses on accelerating the market introduction of CCUS technologies, which is recognised as a key technology to reduce carbon emissions, hence justifying a dedicated project. The consortium also involved A.SPIRE, AVANTIUM, TNO, NOVIS GMBH, EYDE-KLYNGEN and ADMIRIS.

LEADS started on January 1st, 2024, and on January 15th the kick off meeting took place online, and together with the representatives of CINEA, DG RTD and DG CLIMA the consortium discussed methodology and strategy, stressing the importance of synergies between EU funding programmes. The project partners will deploy their expertise, collaborating closely with the EU institutions and industry partners. 

The specific objectives of the project are summarised below:

  1. Create a pipeline of H2020/HEU projects to apply to IF
  2. Assess and select most suitable projects
  3. Build capacity, supporting CCUS project owners to overcome residual bottlenecks, prepare for IF investment decision and enable them to apply to IF
  4. Foster synergies between H2020 and IF, as well as other EU funding programmes
  5. Create and make available to stakeholders a set of IF tools and materials to support them in various forms
  6. Reach a sound impact of performed activities by involving relevant CCUS stakeholders to increase the "deal-flow“ from H2020 to IF, and to unlock the full carbon reduction potential of H2020 R&D results
