Mining's challenge isn't just digitalisation. It's turning data into better decisions

The future of mining depends on more than deploying new technologies. It requires connecting data, operations and sustainability into a single, intelligent system that supports better decisions across the entire value chain.

This is one of the key takeaways from "Building the Digital and Sustainable Mine of the Future", a new article published in Research & Development, showcasing the results of the Horizon Europe-funded DINAMINE project.

Co-authored by Dr. Sean E. Salazar and Dr. Mahdi Shabanimashcool (NGI – Norwegian Geotechnical Institute), together with Aymen Sarjam and Anastasios Tsakas (PNO Innovation), the article explores how integrated digital technologies—from intelligent mine planning and automated drilling to real-time environmental monitoring and advanced sensing—can enable a more efficient, resilient and sustainable mining sector.

At PNO Innovation, we worked to position DINAMINE's innovations beyond the project itself, helping define their market relevance and supporting their path towards future industrial adoption.

As Europe seeks to strengthen its critical raw materials value chain, projects like DINAMINE demonstrate that successful innovation is not only about developing new technologies, but also about ensuring they are ready to create value beyond research and contribute to the future of European industry.
