Policy Recommendations for a Rare Earth Permanent Magnet Recycling Value Chain in Europe

news image

Permanent magnets used in wind turbines, electric vehicles and industrial applications contain some of Europe's highest-risk critical raw materials, yet these materials are rarely recovered at end of life. REEPRODUCE's latest policy paper identifies persistent barriers preventing large-scale recycling of rare earth permanent magnets in Europe, to support the RESourceEU Action Plan, the Critical Raw Materials Act and the upcoming Circular Economy Act. These include labelling and digital product passport requirements that deliver actionable data across the rare earth recycling value chain, operational requirements for identifying, separating, extracting and physical recovery of PMs from EoL-products, and ensuring coherent definitions, reporting and recovery obligations across policy instruments. Read the policy recommendations on the REEPRODUCE project's website
