PYROCO2 has been featured in the first episode of the PNO Innovation Series, a podcast exploring what it takes to move from a successful European proposal to tangible industrial implementation - and how innovation is translated into real market impact.

In this episode, Anna Franciosini (PNO Innovation Italy), in collaboration with Francesca Di Bartolomeo (SINTEF), use PYROCO2 as a case study to unpack the full project journey, from early concept to execution. While the discussion highlights the project’s strong scientific foundations, it also brings forward a critical dimension: how these innovations are strategically positioned to succeed beyond the research phase.

This is where PNO Innovation’s expertise becomes central. Acting as a bridge between research and market uptake, PNO Innovation contributed to shaping PYROCO2’s impact strategy from the proposal stage, ensuring alignment with European priorities while clearly anchoring the project in concrete market needs and industrial relevance.

Beyond proposal development, the podcast sheds light on the project’s current implementation phase. PYROCO2 is not limited to laboratory validation; it aims to scale up its technology and demonstrate it in an industrially relevant environment. By converting CO₂ from a waste stream into valuable molecules through an integrated approach combining biotechnology and catalysis, the project is advancing towards a large-scale demonstration, including a new laboratory at SINTEF and 20 m³ reactors.

Throughout this process, PNO Innovation plays a key role in maximising the project’s long-term value. Through targeted dissemination and exploitation strategies, replication planning, stakeholder engagement and advanced technology intelligence, PNO Innovation ensures that PYROCO2’s results are not only generated, but effectively positioned for uptake, scalability and market adoption.

More than a project story, this podcast episode illustrates how strategic innovation management is essential to transform promising ideas into solutions that matter - demonstrating PNO Innovation’s role as a key enabler in bridging the gap between research excellence and real-world impact.
