On 3 June 2026, the Horizon Europe project SEAMLESS will host its Demonstration Use Case 1 (DUC1) Demonstration Day, a landmark event highlighting the future of European freight transport through autonomous Short Sea Shipping (SSS) operations.

The event represents a major milestone for the SEAMLESS project, which is developing and validating key building blocks for fully automated, economically viable, and environmentally sustainable waterborne logistics. By integrating autonomous vessels, Remote Operation Centres (ROC), smart cargo handling systems, and advanced digital logistics platforms, SEAMLESS is contributing to safer, more resilient, and efficient multimodal transport. The project also supports Europe’s transition towards greener and smarter mobility, while promoting the modal shift from road to waterways.

Experience Innovation in Action
The DUC1 Demonstration Day will provide participants with a unique opportunity to experience SEAMLESS technologies operating within a real logistics chain - from digital coordination systems to autonomous vessel operations. The programme will begin at the University of South-Eastern Norway (USN), Campus Vestfold, with an introduction to the project, including key results and innovations, followed by a simulator visit offering insights into remote and autonomous operations.

In the afternoon, participants will move to Horten Harbour for live demonstrations, including:
- Remote Operation Centre (ROC) operations
- Visits to Massterly
- On-site experience with the vessels Marit and Therese
- Showcase of Asko Maritime’s logistics integration
- Demonstration of automated cargo handling capabilities, including VCOP
- Digital coordination through the ModalNET platform
- Autonomous vessel functionalities such as auto-docking and auto-charging
- Live operational coordination with Yara Birkeland
- A Key Opportunity for Stakeholders

The event will bring together stakeholders from industry, research, and public authorities, offering a unique platform to explore scalable solutions for autonomous and digitally integrated logistics. Participants will have the opportunity to engage with leading experts, gain first-hand insights into real-world applications, and connect with key actors driving innovation in maritime transport.
