Project objectives:

Summary

A Spanish local authority in the mediterrean area is searching for partners (supramunicipalities, renewable energy companies) for a LIFE-CET-Clean Energy Transition proposal. The proposal aims to provide local and regional authorities with the necessary capacity and know-how to offer sustainable plans and strategies towards the energy transition, and undertake the necessary steps to deploy it. The role of the partner sought would be as WPLeaders or Technology Partners.

Description

This project is focused on fostering an energy transition towards renewable energy through joint actions initiated by local and regional authorities and participated by relevant stakeholders as well as the broad civil society around the production of clean energy without GHG emission, therefore, all actions are aligned with the objectives of the Paris Agreement, in particular with holding the increase in the global average temperature to well below 2 °C above pre-industrial levels, and to pursue efforts to limit the temperature increase to 1.5 °C above pre-industrial levels, recognizing that this would significantly reduce the risks and impacts of climate change.

The project aims to provide local and regional authorities in a metropolitan mediterranean area with the necessary capacity and know-how to offer sustainable plans and strategies for the energy transition, as well as the achievement of energy and climate goals, and undertake the necessary steps to deploy such transition, with institutionalized, transversal and innovation-level transition strategies and plans, ambition and specific geographical context of the authorities involved, including stakeholders and the broad civil society.

The consortium is already composed of 2 catalan supramunicipalities. The catalan institution would act as coordinator of the proposal which is suposed to be composed of different type of actors (public and private). They are searching for 3-4 similar regions/metropolitan areas to execute similar actions (assessment, regulatory, policy) as the ones proposed by the coordinator. In each region/area, the coordinator is searching for different type of parners: supramunicipalitites, 1-2 renewable energy systems companies to deploy their respective pilots and even high policy institutions.

EOI Deadline: 12 Des 2021
Call deadline: 12 Jan 2022
Project duration: 2-3 years

Advantages & innovations

The project aims to provide technical support to regional and local authorities to build their capacities to develop and monitor ambitious long-term clean energy transition plans/strategies for 2030 and/or 2050 in coherence with EU and national reporting frameworks, by gaining technical, legal and social skills and resources required to deliver holistic, integrated and inclusive energy planning based on stakeholders' engagement and social innovations. The ultimate aim of the project is to institutionalise integrated energy planning in local and regional authorities and implement a cross-sectoral approach to plan the energy transition, by designing and improving planning processes which can facilitate integration of clean energy with other sectors such as mobility and transport, land-use and urban planning, services, infrastructures, etc.
