In 2019, the first pilot project working on a real-life environment was constructed in Turkey. In an office building where the system was applied, no mechanical equipment has been used and the entire building heating, cooling, ventilation needs were met. The heat losses and gains of the office building have been reduced by 50% compared to those of similar office buildings. The results of the project were published in an international symposium. Smart Facade is a highly integrated façade i.e. all the heating, cooling and ventilation functions of the building are fully integrated with façade. The design doesn't require larger spaces other than conventional facade cladding systems. It avoids "sick building syndrome", which is experienced in buildings with high ventilation requirement by meeting the ventilation requirements through the cleanest and shortest ducts. PV panels and underground heat exchangers can be utilized more easily. Although Smart Facade is a patented system, it is open to development and integration with other technologies in solar energy, energy storage, TEC(thermoelectric), heat pipe etc. It is also suitable for different types of buildings and structures such as technological greenhouses. Briefly, it is a system which is designed for energy efficient buildings (steel and aluminum curtain walls) that require high ventilation loads.
