Project objectives:

The German university institute is dealing with scientific research on legal problems of Information and Communication Technologies. The institute focusses on scientific research for ethical and legal issues arising from the use of novel technologies and digital innovations. Due to their wide experience in collaborations with industrial and scientific partners, they are looking for suitable partners from both fields They are interested in collaborating under a research cooperation agreement.

The German university institute is the oldest establishment dedicated to scientific research on legal problems of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) at a German University. The institute is one of Europe's largest institutions in the field and is involved in different research projects with a focus on data protection law, including for instance information systems in critical infrastructures, international data traffic, security sector, smart traffic, industry 4.0, medical data protection, and many more. In addition, the institute has knowledge in areas such as legal compliance with IT-security and intellectual property rights.

In their projects, the institute usually focusses on providing research for ethical and legal issues arising from the use of novel technologies. This includes all relevant areas of law, in particular data protection law (GDPR) or use-case specific regulations. They provide support in drafting proposals in an ethical and privacy-friendly manner, and also act as legal and ethical helpdesk for all partners in the project implementation phase.

Their work includes the assessment of ideas, technologies and concepts with regard to ethical and legal issues, as well as the development of concepts to tackle these issues which are specifically tailored to the needs of a project. The institute has extensive experience in participating in research projects both on a national and European level.

The institute is looking for suitable partners both from industrial and scientific fields in order to share its expertise and knowledge in the context of the projects focussing on the reseach and development of novel technologies. Furthermore, they are keen to participate in suitable projects associated with European research funding programms like Horizon Europe. With their expertise and experience on legal questions in the context of novel technologies and data protection law, they are able to fundamentally enrich project consortia.

They are looking for a research cooperation agreement with suitable partners from industry or academia.
