Project name:

COGITOR

Status: In Realisation
Creation date: 28-01-2019

Project objectives:

In 36 months COGITOR will pave the way to a groundbreaking approach to cybernetics: Colloidal (liquid) Cybernetic Systems (CCS), bringing embodied intelligence solutions closer to living systems.

COGITOR will achieve (i) an holonomic colloidal memory equivalent to 1 bit further extended to 16 bits by the end of the project, written by a coherent light / electrical stimulus and read by microwave impedance spectroscopy; (ii) an optical sensor (external stimulus from a tunable UV/IR source), influencing the memory state, achieving a signal to noise ratio of at least 1 and being capable to distinguish between stimuli at 0 and 180°; (iii) a tomographic antenna integrated to a read-out circuit and a μPCB (Dandelium) to characterize the CCS properties, with an estimated power consumption lower than 100 mW for a sampling speed of at least 100 kS/s; (iv) an integrated testing of the interference eventually occurring in a complete prototype and tests under extreme environments in terms of pressure (up to 100 bar), temperature (up to 90 °C) and magnetic field strength (up to 1 T). The engineering applications that we plan to exploit (i.e. CCS for diagnostics and exploration also in extreme environment, and characterization systems based on microwave impedance spectroscopy) will be part of the intellectual property of a spin-off company.
