Project name:

Disruptive Driver Monitoring System based in AI computer vision

Status: Idea
Creation date: 14-03-2023

Project objectives:

Short summary A Spanish SME active in the area of software and engineering, has developed a AI based disruptive software solution for driver monitoring systems and in-cabin sense. This tool can be embeded in cars, trucks, buses, aircraft and train. The technology has also a version specially focused on fleets. They are seeking investors, final users and industrial partners (TIER1 & TIER2) for several types of cooperation (investment, research and development, commercial agreement with technical assistance)

Full description A Spanish SME with more than 14 years of experience developing embedded bespoke solutions in computer vision and over 5 years using Artificial Intelligence (Deep Learning) for image processing, has developed a driver monitoring system based on Artificial Intelligence and computer vision solutions. This tool is embeded in cars, trucks, buses, aircraft and train. The solution has also a version specially focused on fleets. The solution also meets the Euro NCAP requirements This based-AI computer vision solution can monitor the occupancy and the driver: - Driver recognition. - Drowsiness. - Distraction. - Gaze. - Eye tracking. - Use of the mobile while driving (texting and speaking) - Smoking. This solution can be applled to the following sectors: 1. Dangerous Goods 2. Taxi – Bus – VTC 3. Aviation 4. Rental Cars 5. Rails 6. Off Road Technical features 1. Driver Monitoring System Based on AI computer vision, is designed to monitor the driver to avoid accidents that, in many cases, can be fatal. The system processes the images locally and not in the Cloud. It has been developed different layers of artificial intelligence algorithms based on convolutional neural networks that detect fatigue and drowsiness (closing eyes, yawning, head tilt, etc.) and distraction of drivers, warning them before it is too late. In addition, the solution incorporates a number of additional attributes based on the driver’s behaviour that are interesting for some sectors or end-users. To detect these patterns, they have developed new layers of artificial intelligence algorithms to detect the identity of the driver (to prevent theft, customize the vehicle settings to each driver, unfit or unauthorized driver), smoking drivers or the use of mobile phones (useful for companies transporting dangerous goods, logistic companies, public transport, rental cars, insurance companies, etc). The system has also been tested to work with autonomous vehicles and to help decision-making at those levels where the vehicle needs driver interaction. A complete portable off the shelf system (Hardware and Software) is also offered for private users. It has a simple installation by placing the system on the windshield and being powered electrically through the vehicle’s cigarette lighter. 2. In-cabin monitoring The system based on AI computer vision has different layers of artificial intelligence to identify aspects related to inside the vehicles and their passengers: - Identification of passengers. - Control of the use of seat belts, both in adults, children and babies. - Inappropriate or aggressive behaviours in passengers of public transport. - Forgotten objects in the back of vehicles. - Detection of the passenger's gender and their state of mind. - Detection of passengers smoking. - Detection of child seats. - Detection of the number of passengers. 3. Monitoring for fleets The tool is designed to monitor the driver to avoid accidents that, in many cases, can be fatal. The system processes the images locally and not in the cloud and is capable of launching audible alerts or to send an alarm to a supervisor or fleet management system. It is developed with layers of artificial intelligence algorithms based on convolutional neural networks that detect: - Detection of fatigue and drowsiness. - Distraction detection. - Detection of the driver's identity. - Detection of the use of mobile phones. - Detection of driver smoking. - Detection of unauthorized person.

Advantages and innovations
  • Software can be customised according to the specifications of the final user (Tier1 OEM, Car manufacturer, rental car companies, insurance companies, etc.).
  • New algorithms can be developed to meet specific requirements.
  • This solution has been developed to save the truck driver life. In this way, also avoids potential problems of loss of the transported goods, delays in the delivery of the goods, risk of contamination or explosion in the case of the transportation of dangerous goods, etc.
  • It can detect if an unauthorized driver has taken the vehicle. In addition, it detects completely forbidden actions such as the use of mobile phones while driving or in some cases, smoking in the vehicle cabin.
