"Prof. Dr. Asen Zlatarov" University, faculty of ecology and environmental studies is interested in leading a consotia or become part of an consortium under the HORIZON-CL6-2023-ZEROPOLLUTION-01. It can offer a high level of expertise and equipment for conducting the necessary research. The university's wide network and partnerships with a number of other scientific organizations, public authorities and representatives of the private sector enable it to conduct pilot innovative developments, test before invest, living labs and demonstrations as well. Since 2020, the University has been operating a Research Center for Blue Growth, where scientists have access to state-of-the-art equipment for water and soil analysis. The laboratory performs measurement of polymers in surface waters, determination of micro polymers in water surface, water column and sediment, as well as a number of physicochemical indicators, including pesticides. University "Prof. Dr. Asen Zlatarov" is also part of Center of Excellence (UNITe - https://unite-bg.eu/en/, Competence Center (MIRACLe - https://miraclebg.com/en/) and the European Digital innovation Hub - EDIH DIGIHUB (https://digihub.bg). "Prof Dr. Asen Zlatarov" University was established in 1963 as the Higher Institute of Chemical Technology. Education at "Prof. Dr. Asen Zlatarov" University is carried out in 18 professional fields in 45 accredited bachelor's and over 30 master's programs.The Faculty of Natural Sciences concentrates the departments providing fundamental training in the fields of natural sciences (physics and chemistry), mathematics and informatics for students from all majors of the university in the fields of chemical technology, chemical engineering, biotechnology, ecology, electronics, computer systems and technology, general engineering, etc.
Advantages and innovations
The university has the necessary expertise and capacity to lead the studies in the Black Sea basin to fill the gaps in knowledge about the impacts and risks of contaminants of emerging concern (e.g. micro plastics, pharmaceuticals, etc) on marine ecosystems, including in marine sediments and on deep-sea ecosystems and on marine biota and on marine biodiversity, and including in relation to climate change mitigation and adaptation.
