University has developed a novel inhibitors of cytokinin oxidase - stimulators of plant growth and development in optimal and stress conditions applicable in agriculture in plant treatment preparations.
The compounds are also suitable for use in plant tissue cultures.
The invention relates to substituted 1-[2-(hydroxyalkyl)phenyl]-3-ylurea derivatives, their use as stimulators of plant growth and development in optimal and stress conditions, and preparations containing these derivatives.
Treated plants prove increased resistance to stress, such as drought, heat, salinity, strong light, cold, frost and floods.
This effect is further streghtened by delay of chlorophyll degradation and plant tissue senescence as an additional effect of the compounds.
Is designed to be used in economically important crops, such as cereals, beet, pomes, drupes and soft fruits, leguminous plants, oil plants, cucumber plants, fibre plants, citrus fruit, vegetables, or plants such as tobacco, nuts, eggplants, sugar cane, tea, vine grapes, hops, bananas and natural rubber and medicinal plants, as well as ornamentals.
Crops include those which have been rendered tolerant towards classes of growth factors by conventional breeding methods or genetic engineering methods. The compounds accelerate the pouring of seeds and the increase in the size of seeds and fruits of plants, shorten the germination time of seeds, increase yields and quality of agricultural products, and finally increase resistance to environmental stresses.
The compounds are also suitable for use in plant tissue cultures, where they prevent the degradation of cytokinins and thus increase the viability of new plants, regeneration of buds and shoots from explants, callus growth, suppress apical dominance, reduce hyperhydricity of plants grown in vitro and show very strong micropropagation activity.
