Project name:

Molecular Surface Engineering (MSE) for life science research and multiplex diagnostics

Status: Idea
Creation date: 28-09-2021

Project objectives:

A German nanotechnology company is offering modification of surfaces using Molecular Surface Engineering (MSE) for multiplex diagnostics and life science research. They are looking for partners that are interested in applying these technologies in the framework of a research cooperation or a manufacturing agreement.

A German SME, active in the field of nanotechnology, is specialized in the field of surface functionalization using Molecular Surface Engineering (MSE).

For the development of multiplex or multiparameter assays the company supports different approaches based on the following product families. These can be used as starting points for the development of customized solutions for new multiplex platforms or new diagnostic concepts:
Consumables for microarrays: The company is a leading producer of functionalized substrates for microarrays. The wide range of surfaces, substrates and accessories for microarrays enables the customers to select the most suitable substrate for their specific application.

Microparticles and submicron particles: The SME is offering a broad portfolio of monodisperse microparticles (beads) for multiplex bead assays, agglutination and cell applications. The company’s microparticles can be color-encoded with a wide range of fluorescent dyes and functionalized with reactive 3D-matrices.
Functionalized microplates for immunoassays: Amine binding, 3D-Azide, 3D-Aldehyde and Streptavidin coated 96-well plates for challenging ELISA (Enzyme-linked Immunosorbent Assay) applications as well as functionalized PCR (polymerase chain reaction) plates for bio-orthogonal immobilization of molecules.

The company is looking for partners that are interested in developing new multiplex assays for in-vitro diagnostics, veterinary diagnostics, bioanalytics and pharma research. The cooperation could be based on a research cooperation agreement in the form of joint research or contract research. The SME also offers the opportunity of tailored development of similar technologies on the basis of a manufacturing agreement.

Advantages & innovations

Surfaces for the immobilization of biomarkers can be tailored to the specific application, thus ensuring an optimal performance. Consumable formats for existing read-out platforms are available, e.g. microarrays, flow cytometry, image cytometry, plate readers, lateral flow or agglutination. These can be further optimized for specific platforms. The company is an experienced, ISO 9001 certified manufacturer of consumables for the life science industry.

Partner sought

The company is in search of industrial and academic partners like diagnostics companies, life science research organizations and academic institutions as well as biotech and pharma companies who would like to develop new multiplex assays for in-vitro diagnostics, veterinary diagnostics, bioanalytics and pharma research. The cooperation is envisaged in the framework of a research cooperation agreement or a manufacturing agreement. For the former, the role of the partner would either be research partner (joint research) or contractee (contract research). For the latter, the partner’s role would be that of a contractee, asking the German client to manufacture a product similar to the ones described herein.
