Open Innovation Challenge “Sicurezza del Firmware”

Lazio Innova and Telsy launch the open innovation challenge "Firmware Security", calling startups and innovators to present technological solutions that intervene specifically to protect embedded software, both during normal operation and during the delicate phases of firmware update or bug discovery and fixing.

Telsy is a TIM Group company that operates in the field of information security and cybersecurity by providing state-of-the-art ICT and cryptographic solutions to government and corporate customers.

The challenge aims to identify innovative ideas to solve critical issues in the following areas of challenge:

• Blackbox firmware: inability to check for vulnerable libraries or functions or backdoors inserted by the manufacturer;
• Updates: the complexity of implementing secure self-updating mechanisms;
• Tampering: Difficulty finding out if a device already in use has been compromised

Specifically, the challenge is aimed at:

• Startups (also innovative);
• SMEs (micro, small and medium-sized enterprises) and Innovative SMEs;
• A spin-off of departments of University Institutes and Research Centers;
• Micro and small businesses.

The Proposals for Innovative Solutions candidates will be evaluated by an Advisory Board appointed by Lazio Innova and composed of 3 members, including a representative of Lazio Innova S.p.A. and two representatives of Telsy S.p.A.

The Advisory Board will evaluate the Proposals for Innovative Solutions at its sole discretion and will proceed to the selection of the 6 finalists, who will be able to access a free mentorship path, aimed at focusing on time the proposed Solutions concerning the needs expressed and making them practicable.

The winner will win a cash prize worth 20 thousand euros and specialized services. In second and third place, specialized services for the development of their business.

Lazio Innova S.p.A. and Telsy S.p.A. will provide experts who will support Innovators in the process of finalizing innovative solutions during the mentorship process.
