Short summary A Lithuanian institution is developing an artificial intelligence-based image recognition algorithm for pedestrian recognition in traffic. The developed tool can be applied in traffic management systems, when traffic participants, mainly pedestrians, must be recognized in poor traffic conditions. The organization is looking for partners to work under a licensing agreement or technological cooperation agreement.

Full description One of the biggest Research and Development institutions in Lithuania is developing an artificial intelligence-based image recognition algorithm for pedestrian recognition in traffic. A unique set of data is accumulated to ensure efficient operation of the algorithm and high accuracy. This algorithm, together with the data set, can be applied in traffic management systems, when it is desired to recognize traffic participants, mainly pedestrians, in various, especially poor traffic conditions (e.g., sunrise, sunset, rain, blizzard, etc.). An initial version of the algorithm and a dataset were created, further development has stopped for the time being, because in order to create a complete traffic management system using this algorithm, far-infrared spectrum cameras must be used, which are banned or classified as military purpose products in some countries. Potential market: global market for traffic management systems. Potential users: developers of traffic management systems or users of traffic management systems (e.g., municipalities). Alternative areas of application could be Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) integrated into cars or solutions for the military sector. This product will help to solve high accident rate in certain places - high traffic intersections, places where visibility conditions are often poor, etc.

Advantages and innovations The main uniqueness of this solution is the extremely high level of accuracy. The tool is in the early stages of development, but it is already known that the accuracy of the algorithm will be extremely high. A strong, highly competent team working not only on this one product, but on the wider field of image recognition (adaptation of algorithms to solve specific image recognition tasks, high-accuracy extraction, etc.).
