Project name:

Sensor technique to separate and extract (non) ferrous metals from waste like bottom ash, using innovative separation technology, The sensor is suited a.o. for waste & recycling industry applications

Status: Idea
Creation date: 08-09-2022

Project objectives:

Short summary A Dutch SME that encourages and assists businesses in significantly reducing their CO2 emissions, is engaged in the manufacturing and selling of secondary raw materials derived from recycling of various residual and building materials. For this reason, they have developed a sensor to be able to separate materials in waste. Within many industries, much can be accomplished with energy savings, logistics and the efficient (re)use of waste and building materials.

Full description A dutch SME developed a sensor capable of analysing and characterizing (non)ferro particles in bottom ash, “produced” by the waste & recycling industry. The sensor is capable of measuring the number of small particles in the materials stream and, therefore, directing a sorting instrument (existing or new) to separate the (non) ferro particles based on their properties scanned by the sensor. This sensor technology i, amongst onthers, interesting for several different industries in the waste & recycling sector

Advantages and innovations The sensors main advantages will be used in the sorting industry. With the use of the innovative sensor, based on a self developed technology, the advantages are: - The sorting gives a better price for the well-sorted (non)ferro smaller particles - A cleaner material badge , based on more clean recycled waste material, is a better resource for manufacturing new products like paving stones - Efficient (re)use of waste and building materials is environmentally friendly, circular and has a lower cost-price - Automation of labour intensive work in separation helps to increase efficiency and effectiveness, and it creates more friendly working circumstances - Automation of laboratoty work also increases efficiency and effectiveness

Technical Specification or Expertise Sought The company is looking for a manufacturer of waste sorting machines willing to upgrade their product with the innovative sensor for analyzing and characterizing.
